Sixth study in recent months links mercury in flu shots to brain damage, autism

(Natural News) The toxic effects of mercury, also known in vaccines as thimerosal, have once again been confirmed, this time by researchers from the University of Brazil. Marking the sixth major study in recent months to condemn the use of mercury in medicine, the new study reveals that mercury causes serious brain damage and is linked to autism and other developmental diseases in children and Alzheimer’s disease in adults.
Dr. Jose Dorea and his colleagues conducted an extensive, peer-reviewed analysis of various studies and available information in major databases that address the effects of low-dose thimerosal, or ethylmercury, on neural tissue and behavior. They found conclusively that thimerosal accumulates in brain tissue, negatively affects brain development, and harms brain cells.
“Mercury is known to cause serious harm, especially to fetuses and children because of their smaller size,” said Lisa Sykes, president of the Coalition for Mercury-free Drugs (CoMeD), a non-profit group dedicated to removing mercury from medicine. “Why remove thimerosal from pediatric vaccines only to inject it into pregnant women and children with recommended flu shots? They removed thimerosal from other vaccines, so it should also be removed from flu shots.”
Several other recent studies confirm the numerous dangers posed by mercury, including one recently published in the Folia Neuropathologica that links the toxin directly to autism. The vast majority of the flu shots administered in the US still contain thimerosal as they come from multi-dose vials that require a preservative in order to prevent contamination. However, CoMeD says there is no reason to continue using thimerosal since safer alternative preservatives already exist and are currently in use in many pediatric vaccines that used to contain thimerosal.

“Safe” childhood vaccines killed or injured 2,699 children last year in America, the US government has admitted this week—and 101 children developed autism after vaccination, even though researchers continue to insist that no link exists. Parents received $110m in damages.
The news comes at a time when the Japanese government halted its own vaccine programme after six children died following Hib (meningitis) and pneumococcal inoculations.
The extent of the damage caused by the 30 vaccines given to babies and toddlers has been revealed by the U.S. Health Department’s National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program, which has just released its figures for 2010.
During the year, the Program received submissions from 13,797 families who believed that a vaccine injured or killed their child; although most of the cases are still under review, 2,699 parents have so far been compensated and a link to a vaccine has been established. The most dangerous of the vaccines is the DTP (diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis), which was the subject of 3,979 claims, including 696 deaths. And, despite the best efforts of researchers and doctors to disprove any link, the Programma has accepted that 101 children’s autism was a direct result of a vaccine. Vaccine Damage: Parents receive $2bn compensation pay-outs

Vaccine manufacturers have paid out nearly $2bn (billion) in damages to parents in America whose children were harmed by one of the childhood jabs such as the MMR (measles-mumps-rubella) or DPT (diphtheria-pertussis-tetanus).
In all, around 2,000 families have received compensation payments that have averaged $850,000 each. There are a further 700 claims that are going through the pipeline.
None of the claims is for autism as medical researchers say they have failed to find a link between the disease and the MMR vaccine, despite the initial findings made by Dr. Andrew Wakefield. Instead they are for a wide spectrum of physical and mental conditions that are likely to have been caused by one of the vaccinations.
Around 7,000 parents have filed a claim of an adverse reaction with America’s Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP). To win an award, the claimant must prove a causal link to a vaccine. As the medical establishment has refused to recognize any link to autism, the VICP has so far rejected 300 claims for this outright.

A U.S. court has this week awarded a family a payment of up to $20 (million) as compensation for their daughter who suffered autism after she was given multiple vaccines, including the MMR. [H: Emphasis added.] The parents of Hannah Poling, now a 13-year-old girl, will receive an immediate $1.5 million compensation payment followed by annual sums of $500,000 to pay for her care. The award could easily reach $20m, say prosecutors. Hannah was a normal and healthy child until she was given five vaccinations, including the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) shot, in 2000. Her health declined rapidly and she developed fevers, stopped eating, didn’t respond to stimulation, and started to display symptoms of autism, her parents said. [H: Emphasis added.] Although the US government accepted liability in 2007, the settlement figure has only recently been agreed upon. Pro-vaccine groups are quick to point out that Hannah’s is a special case [H: Don’t bet on that!] and that it doesn’t prove an MMR-autism link. They say that Hannah suffered from a rare mitochondrial disorder that predisposed her to autism.
